Who Can Apply

Public and third sector organisations that are delivering in areas of the care system that support children, young people, and families, in recognition of a whole system approach to work, can apply.

Applicants must:

  • Have an organisational culture that is adaptive and able to implement change.
  • Deliver projects connected to children, young people, and families experiencing care.
  • Have staff in place who are ‘ready to go’ to implement the project.
  • Have committed resources ready to #KeepThePromise
  • Embed participatory approaches
  • Be open to active learning.

Applications from collaborations are welcome. The collaboration must work with children, young people and families and be representative of both the public and third sector. All partners that form a collaboration need to ensure that their organisation:

  • Has made a public commitment to #KeepThePromise.
  • Can demonstrate their commitment to listening and working with children, young people, and families.
  • Has the senior management commitment, staff willingness and organisation staying power to implement service redesigns.
  • Produce a Collaboration Agreement that outlines roles, dispute management and equitable and proportionate distribution of actions and allocation of budget to each partner.

This fund is targeted at applicants that are already implementing The Promise and can use their knowledge and skills to put bold solutions into action. Applicants must show that they can:

  • Work collectively:
    • Commit to working with The Promise Scotland team, engaging in an offer of support.
    • Willing to work collaboratively and think/work outside of organisation/local area.
    • Understand the current system, relationships, and awareness of theme/context, indicating what needs to shift.
  • Have the necessary internal culture:
    • Buy-in from senior management on the steps necessary to implement change.
    • Support everyone in the organisation and collaboration to be brave, honest, and work supportively and appreciatively with others.
    • Commit to working deeply, meaningfully, and supportively with children, young people, and families with care experience.
    • Have a critical lens for learning and be willing to share insights, knowledge, and lessons internally and externally.
  • Commit to a Rights-Based Approach to Design and Delivery:
    • Children, young people, and families with experience of care are actively supported and enabled to meaningfully participate in systems and services design/redesign.
    • Alignment with The Promise and policies supportive of children, young people, and families such as Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) and United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
