Objectives of Fund
Funding is intended to allow artists to make and develop creative artwork with their international peers and encourage new international partnerships and innovative ways of collaborating.
Value Notes
There is a total funding pot of £3.5 million.
Funding is divided as follows:
- Small grants of £5,000 to £20,000.
- Large grants of £20,000 to £75,000.
Who Can Apply
To be eligible, UK organisations must be working in partnership with an international organisation from an accepted country.
Applications will be accepted from arts and culture organisations, and higher education/research organisations with an arts and culture focus.
Applicants can be from the community, charity, private or public sector as long as they are a legally registered entity with a bank account.
Priority will be given to:
- Projects that show clear benefit to artists and individual practitioners.
- Organisations that identify specific artists for inclusion in the project.
- UK organisations who have not previously worked with the British Council, especially those based outside London.
Eligible Expenditure
The funders are looking for innovative projects that demonstrate new art forms or content; work with a new partner or in a new country; or that approach audiences in a new way.
Projects could include the following:
- Film.
- Creative technology.
- Literature.
- Visual arts.
- Theatre and dance.
- Architecture, design and fashion.
- Music.
- Cross-art forms.
- Activities with themes relevant to the creative economy.
- Cross-disciplinary projects (eg art and science, art and technology).
The scope of a project could be to collaborate on a piece of art or could include:
- Residencies.
- Exhibitions, festivals, showcases, screening programmes.
- Conferences, salons.
- Creative use of archives.
- Research and development of future project ideas.
Projects can address any theme, but the funders are particularly keen to receive proposals that focus on gender, race, ethnicity, disability, inclusion, ageing and other areas of diversity.
Grants can cover project costs including:
- New staff positions to support delivery.
- Additional hours for existing staff.
- Training costs.
- Professional fees.
- Translation and interpretation fees.
- Materials.
- Activities relating to learning, advocacy and engagement.
- Evaluation.
- Promotion.
- Equipment or overhead costs.
- First-party insurance costs.
How To Apply
Applications will be accepted until 4 November 2021.
There will be two informal international meet-ups allowing organisations to network and discuss projects. These will be held on:
- 20 October 2021, 4pm to 5pm BST (deadline for registration 18 October 2021).
- 21 October 2021, 9am to 10am BST (deadline for registration 19 October 2021).
