Objectives of Fund

Grants are intended to support registered charities in Scotland who are working to make positive changes for Scotland’s people and communities.

The funding programmes are as follows:

  • Reach – intended to make positive and lasting change in communities across Scotland (subject of this report).
  • Change – intended to have a large-scale, long-term, positive impact on Scotland’s charities and communities.
  • Invest – intended to support financial vulnerability charities or projects addressing financial vulnerability.

Value Notes

Grants of between £1,000 and £25,000 over one year are available.

Who Can Apply

Charities registered in Scotland with an income of £1.5 million or less and operational for more than one year, are eligible to apply.

Applicants must:

  • Have all regulatory returns up to date at OSCR and Companies House.
  • Supply their latest annual accounts, which must have been checked by OSCR and Companies House and signed by an independent examiner and a member of the Board.
  • Demonstrate in their application that they are addressing social exclusion or social disadvantage.

Restrictions

The following are not eligible for funding:

  • Newly registered charities operational for less than one year with no accounts lodged at OSCR.
  • Charities who redistribute funding for subsequent grant-making to other organisations/individuals.
  • Individuals.
  • Advertising.
  • Sponsorship.
  • Foreign trips.
  • Overseas projects.
  • Charities whose purpose is:
    • Political organisation.
    • Animal welfare.
    • The promotion of religion.
    • Medical research.
    • To make grants, donations, loans, gifts or pensions to individuals.

Eligible Expenditure

Funding is intended to address social exclusion or disadvantage to ensure that the most vulnerable people across Scotland are provided with opportunity and equality to make positive, sustainable changes to their lives. Examples include:

  • Disadvantage
    • Charities addressing primary disadvantage such as homelessness, abuse, mental health or poverty, or secondary disadvantage such as debt issues, learning disabilities, illiteracy, lack of employability skills or health issues.
  • Social Exclusion
    • Charities addressing exclusionary challenges for minorities, people with disabilities, LGBT people, drug users, institutional care leavers, the elderly or the young.

All funds must be spent within 12 months of receipt of funds.

How To Apply

The 2021 application windows are quite short.

The next application window runs from 12 noon on 6 December until 12 noon on 16 December 2021.

Grants will be awarded in February 2022.

Groups whose applications have been declined must wait six months from the date of the letter from the Foundation before reapplying to the programme.
